Overview

The Southern Safari Circuit of Tanzania offers a distinctly different, more rugged, and often more intimate wilderness experience compared to the well-trodden Northern Circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro). It's characterized by vast, untamed landscapes, fewer crowds, and a greater emphasis on diverse safari activities beyond just game drives. If you're seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure with a focus on true wilderness and varied experiences, the Southern Circuit is an excellent choice

Arrive: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Depart: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Highlights

  • Dar Es Salaam - meaning "haven of peace" in Arabic, is Tanzania's largest city, economic hub, and a bustling port on the Indian Ocean. While not a traditional safari destination like the national parks, it serves as the primary gateway to Tanzania's Southern Safari Circuit and the famous Zanzibar archipelago.
  • Nyerere National Park - is a colossal and incredibly significant wildlife area. It was formerly the northern part of the vast Selous Game Reserve and was re-designated as a National Park in 2019. It remains one of Africa's largest protected areas and offers a truly wild, uncrowded, and diverse safari experience.
  • Ruaha National Park - is a true gem of the Southern Safari Circuit. It's Tanzania's largest national park and offers an incredibly wild, rugged, and authentic safari experience. Often touted as one of Africa's best-kept secrets, it provides stunning landscapes and exceptional wildlife viewing.
